About Educarla

So… Who am I really?

Technically, I’m a language teacher.
Unofficially? I help people go from “I understand… but I can’t speak” to confidently chatting with their partner’s parents, travelling across Latin America, or debating global politics (yes, that has happened).

I grew up between cultures, with Ecuadorian roots and a childhood in Spain, and I’ve now lived in London for over 10 years, with earlier experiences in Switzerland and Italy. Moving between countries made one thing very clear to me: language is more than communication, it’s connection, identity, and belonging.

That experience is what led me to teaching in a more human way: focused not only on progress, but on confidence, comfort, and real communication. Students often tell me that class becomes their favourite part of the week. That it feels like talking to a friend (who just happens to care a lot about your subjunctive). That they finally feel confident. And honestly? That’s the best part of my job.

Carla, outside the classroom

  • I was vegetarian for six years… and now I genuinely don’t know how I survived, because I really love meat. People change.
  • When I’m not teaching, I’m probably walking dogs, dog-sitting, or napping on a sofa with a furry companion. Yes, I have a second passionate job.
  • I’m reconnecting with my Latin roots through Dominican bachata and Cali salsa. It’s a work in progress, but a very joyful one.
  • Inspired by my students (they’re very persuasive), I once packed my life into a backpack and spent eight months travelling around Latin America.
  • I love food in all its forms. I don’t trust people who don’t.
  • I read mostly on a Kindle or through audiobooks, simply because I’ve run out of physical space for books in my home.
